Abstract:
Science has played an important role in every field of human life, from its basic needs to making us understand the importance of the environment. We can say that science is mainly helpful in the development of environmental values. Through science subjects, teachers can develop environmental values in students. Science teaching has an important role in the school curriculum and environmental values have an important role in life, therefore the science subject curriculum should be environmentally value based. Values are the guiding principles of education. They control and direct human behavior. Value-less education is considered useless and lifeless. We can say that the structure of education is based on values. Education is the greatest value in itself. Its effect is very deep on the person. In the absence of values, no matter how much a person acquires personal comforts, prosperity and glory, he cannot achieve happiness and peace in the society. One of the major problems of the present Indian society is the decay of values. Rapid industrialization, information revolution, new economy, global challenges are being held responsible for the decline and change in values. At present, the major political, cultural, economic and environmental challenges facing the society have their origin linked to the stream of values. Society is finding itself incapable of dealing with these challenges. If we want to solve these problems, then first of all we have to develop in children the values imbued with the spirit of Satyam, Shivam Sundaram, Ahimsa, Kindness, Love, Tolerance, Equality, Fraternity, Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam as per Indian culture and traditions.
