Abstract:
Geography is a subject which provides opportunities to develop scientific attitudes, skills and values in students. This subject, along with providing geographical knowledge and understanding to the students, also explains the distribution of resources and their interrelationships. Geography is one of the most important subjects at the primary level, which draws a lot of content from subjects like mathematics, science, sociology, history etc. Under this subject, students study the natural environment as well as the cultural environment, which paves the way for them to learn various skills necessary for life.
Geography subject not only develops critical thinking, reasoning ability, problem solving skills etc. in the students but also connects them with the environment around them. Through the subject of Geography, the teacher provides students with complete knowledge of the resources available at the local, regional, national and global levels and also makes them aware of the problems occurring at all these levels and motivates them to find solutions to them.
Thus this subject aims to broaden the mental outlook of the students.
