Abstract: Environmental Education (EE) is a balanced process of developing cognitive understanding, emotional connectedness, and behavioural change towards environmental issues that concern both humans and the natural system. The goal is to enable individuals to find equitable, just, and sustainable solutions that maintain a dynamic equilibrium between human and environmental well-being. Environmental Education is by nature a cross-disciplinary Curricular Area, as it involves understanding the diverse set of factors — both natural and societal — that can affect this increasingly delicate equilibrium between nature and humans. Environmental Education, therefore, requires a holistic mix of content from the Science as well as the Social Science, including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Geology, Ecology, History, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, and Anthropology. Additionally, our strong cultural traditions regarding our conception of, and relationship with, nature, and the wealth of practices of environmental conservation that have resulted from this conception, must also find their place in Environmental Education.
