Teachers’ role in Education for Sustainable Development

Abstract

At the dawn of the 21st century, the education of the young to take up the challenges of the new millennium has assumed great importance. Education for sustainable development allows every human being to acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary to shape a sustainable future. Education for sustainable development means including key sustainable development issues into teaching and learning. Education for sustainable development promotes competencies skills like critical thinking, imagining future scenarios and making decisions in a collaborative way. The young today are facing a world in which communication and information revolution has led to changes in all spheres: scientific, technological, political, economic, social and cultural. To be able to prepare our young people face the future with confidence, purpose and responsibility, the crucial role of teachers cannot be overemphasized. The Teachers are nation builder so, the teachers have main role in sustainable development. This paper highlight the major role and responsibility of teachers toward Education for Sustainable Development and which strategies can use teachers in Sustainable Development for Education.
