Abstract: | In Article 45 of the Indian Constitution, a target was set to provide compulsory and free education to all boys and girls in the age group of 6 to 14 years in 10 years, but even after a long period of 58 years, the primary education is still incomplete. The goal of universalization has not been achieved. This situation has been reviewed in the education policy of 1986. Today's education scenario is relatively disappointing. Seen from any angle, constitutional goals are still a distant dream. The literacy rate in 1991 was 52–51% and in 1993 it was 6–11%. And the gross enrollment of 11-14 age groups was 74.5% and 67.7% respectively. The dropout rate in classes 1-6 was 36.32% for girls and 38.6% for girls. The dropout rate in classes 1-8 was 70.97% for girls and 74.9% for girls. This means that only 30% of the students are able to complete primary education. The overall literacy rates for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes were 37.4 and 29.6 percent respectively. The number of school entrants in the country is minimum 29 lakh. The clear differences found between the different demands of the population on the basis of these figures force us to accept the fact that the attention given to the education of the masses and the special attention given to the education of girls and other disadvantaged groups. Despite the attention, a lot of work remains in this area. |
