In India, especially in the modern period, many social reformers like - Raja Rammohan Roy, Swami Dayanand Saraswati, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, Savitri Bai Phule, Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar, Raghunath Karve, Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar, Mahadev Govind Ranade, Annie Besant etc. Tried to remove inequality between men.In the Indian society, during the Vedic period, women had the right to receive education, but in the Middle Ages, women's education was denied. Women's education was supported in religions like Buddhism, Jainism etc. Women's education was emphasized in the Charter Act of 1813 and then in Wood's Dispatch in 1854. After independence, education was included as a fundamental right in the Indian Constitution.
