If history is the inscription of time, then the society of a certain period of time is the creator of the history of that period. In primitive civilizations across the world, needs became the reason for the formation of society. Society flourished due to the continuous growth of these needs. The presented research work also presents historical details related to division of work from ancient Indian society to present Indian society. In our society, division of work has been taking place keeping in mind the stratification in the social system, traditional beliefs, caste, gender difference, level of economic system etc. Now, due to modernization and some other influences, ability, capability, interest and understanding power have also been made the basis of division of work. In the present time, it is clear on what basis the division of work should be done, yet there is inequality in the division of work in the society. In ancient tradition, people of a particular caste used to do their traditional business only. It was difficult to even think about others, otherwise society would prevent him from doing so. In the present time a person can choose the profession of his choice. But even today inequality is visible in some areas. Looking at some changes, it would not be appropriate to say that gender discrimination has been eliminated from the society.en_US
