Abstract: Many eminent personalities including Mahatma Gandhi favoured education in mother tongue and much emphasis are made on the importance of mother tongue. Despite of the efforts of great educationists and philosophers, the place of mother tongue in providing education to the children is not up to the expected state. One of the reasons may be the insufficient pre-service training provided to the teachers on the issue. So it is needed to study the impact of in-service teachers’ training in mother tongue. The study focus upon the impact of teachers training for Gujarati language in Gujarat state and its problem with a view to review and strengthen in service training programmes in the following one of the objectives
