SOCIAL HARMONY A facet of Library

Title: SOCIAL HARMONY A facet of Library
Authors: Tripathy, P. K.
Abstract: In the present time all people live in an increasingly heterogeneous world, where there
are more than 6,000 different languages, 7 major religions and a number of sects, abudant
ethenic groups, and many more divergent characters are in prevalence. Cultural diversity is
a historical and contemporary social reality, irrespective of where one is located in the world.
Despite the geographic, linguistic, cultural, and religious diversities everywhere human beings
try to live together harmoniously for their survival. The perception of harmony may change
with time or differ in different cultural contexts. It is believed that human beings are teachable,
improvable and perfectible through personal and communal endeavour especially including
self-cultivation and self-creation. The library, in the process of cultivating virtue and the
developing moral perfection among people, provides them a base. In some places, library
may find social harmony a necessary goal behind their didactic functions and, in some sense
this may be helpful to rebuilt society. The library should have a policy and a strategic plan,
defining its mission, objectives, priorities and services related to cultural diversity. The
international organisations like IFLA and Unesco have jointly created a manifesto on way to
direct the library system and services towards establishing harmonious society.

Better ways to Search Information on Web Platform

Title: Better ways to Search Information on Web Platform
Authors: Tripathy, P. K.
Abstract: the World Wide Web is the collection of globally distributed text and multimedia documents and files and other network services linked in such a way as to create an immense electronic library from which information can be retrieved quickly by intuitive searches. "The Web was developed to be a pool of human knowledge, which would allow collaborators in remote sites to share their ideas and all aspects of a common project." (Wardrip-Fruin & Nick, 2003). The Web links represent the application of hypertext technology and a graphical interface to the Internet to retrieve information that is contained in specially formatted documents that may reside in the same computer or be distributed across many computers around the world. The three main elements of Web are (i) the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), to write contents, (ii) the Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) defines a set of standards for transmitting Web pages across the Internet, (iii) the Universal Resource Locator (URL) is a standardized naming convention for identifying a Web document or file, in a sense the address of a link. The combined output is called the Web because it is made up of many sites, all linked together, allowing users to travel from one site to the next by clicking on a hyperlink.

New Marketing Strategies of Information Services in University Libraries

Title: New Marketing Strategies of Information Services in University Libraries
Authors: Tripathy, P. K.
Abstract: Universities primarily designed to conduct academic research in all areas of universe of knowledge for which up-dated information is the basic requirement. University libraries invest a huge amount of money on collection development, processing and storage of information resources to support the research undertaken by universities. Effective utilization of these resources can be achieved through ICT based information services of university libraries. This is the main focus of the paper. The paper also deals with the new ICT based tools to assist Universities libraries developing and delivering appropriate information services and products.

Modern Search Engines: Complex Web Searching Techniques and Features

Title: Modern Search Engines: Complex Web Searching Techniques and Features
Authors: Tripathy, P. K.
Abstract: “The more complex the more easier” is the policy of search engine technology. Gradually, along with developments in web the internal complex structure of searche engines is also growing to bring effectiveness in retrieval of materials from web. The author, in this paper, tries to discuss some of the complex features of the modern search enginces although knowing their internal mathematics is too difficult as proprietary policies. The basic features, which are prominently observable and identifiable by the users while using the search engines, have been naratted in the paper. The contents of the paper will be verymuch useful for them who are involved in research on search engines.
