Summary: Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected teaching processes worldwide, particularly in laboratory-intensive courses. To adapt, online experiments have been implemented globally. In response, educators at the Department of Chemistry, Chulalongkorn University, developed a Lab@Home chemistry experiment for their general chemistry lab course titled Preparation and Properties of Buffer Solutions. This experiment involved two learning activities. The first activity was delivered via prerecorded videos, in which the educator demonstrated the buffer solution preparation and pH measurements using a pH meter. The second activity was the Lab@Home experiment, which allowed remote student participation. A unique component of Lab@Home was the online guidance by educators through the Zoom app, facilitating hands-on chemical processes. Furthermore, Lab@Home was designed for simplicity, utilizing fewer chemicals and performing all experiments on a clear plastic sheet protector. This approach eased the distribution of materials and enhanced safety. The developed experiment was implemented and taught for two semesters at the Department of Chemistry, Chulalongkorn University, with 300 students completing Lab@Home, a self-paced laboratory course. The authors share this Lab@Home experience as an option for programs exploring novel off-campus approaches to laboratory experiences.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected teaching processes worldwide, particularly in laboratory-intensive courses.
