Summary: Abstract: The role of inorganic chemistry in the chemistry curriculum has been one of changes in emphasis over time, as reflected by papers in the latest virtual issue of articles from the first 100 years of the Journal. The balance between descriptive and synthetic emphases and those components of the field that rely on physical chemistry concepts has shifted over time and been the topic of some significant debate in the literature. All this leads to a current time when many large impact advances in inorganic science from quantum dots to metalloproteins are finding their way into the chemistry classroom. The virtual issue can be found here: https://pubs.acs.org/page/jceda8/vi/JCE100yr-inorganic.
